You’re Ruled by Metal

You’re an Artist, an Alchemist and a Poet. The way Chinese Medicine views Metal Types are that you are virtuous, faithful and brave. You are intellectually sharp and with your tendency for self-discipline, this can make you very successful. You also love structure and tend to be organized and methodical. Those who are not this admire these traits within you!


Perfectionists in everything you do, I say that with Love, Metal Types are highly creative and detail orientated. With your ability to “cut to the chase’ (think of a Metal sword, slicing through the bullsh*t), you are good at solving problems. This proves to make a good lawyer, teacher or counselor.


The Metal Element is associated with the lungs and skin and so when out of balance you are prone to respiratory problems such as asthma and skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. The paired organ is the Large Intestine, so when out of balance we see colon issues of all kinds and hard to let go of material items.
The season of the Metal Element is the Autumn and the emotion associated is grief and sadness. The Fall is when we all start to slow down after the excitement of summer and Metal Types can seem insular, preferring a small group of close friends as opposed to being part of a large crowd. When out of balance you can allow grief and past hurts to damage your present relationships. This can make it hard for you to form bonds with other people and you may end up replacing intimacy with material things.

Gentle Suggestions:


Regular aerobic exercise will strengthen your lungs and benefit the Metal Type. Try knocking on your lungs gently with your fists (Qi Gong).
Seeking help with letting go of the past can really support the Metal Type to form good relationships.
Watch for a tendency to self –righteousness which is one of the ways the Metal Type protects herself or himself from pain.
Breathing deeply is important for Metal Types so a meditative technique that involves focusing on the breath can be helpful. Try one of my Qi Gong classes.
Metal Types should avoid junk food and opt for foods high in minerals especially leafy greens vegetables.
White foods such as mushrooms are also particularly nourishing for the Metal Element.
Lastly, find ways to connect with something greater than you. Suggestions are the Universe, the Divine, God, and so forth.
